About

Suzanna Moran’s practice is focused on arts and entertainment. She represents creatives ranging from stadium-selling superstars to beatmakers negotiating their first placement. She advises both domestic and international clients on legal and business issues surrounding the Western music industry, including intellectual property protection, career management, and maximizing revenue. She helps her clients negotiate and memorialize deals with management teams, labels, publishers, tour organizers, other artists, and more, and represents her clients in related litigation matters. As an entertainment lawyer, Suzanna is licensed in California and New York as well as Texas and Colorado.

Suzanna is also a Full Professor at the University of Denver Sturm College of Law, where she has taught since 2007. She teaches entertainment law, with a specific focus on the music industry, and the required 1L legal writing and advocacy course. She has also taught environmental law multiple times.

Her law practice and teaching agenda merge her two lifelong passions: law and the arts. Suzanna is a lifelong classical musician as well as a writer. Before joining the faculty at Denver Law, she was the Director of the Publications Department of the Denver Art Museum, where her wide-ranging responsibilities included artist copyrights, permissions, and royalties, as well as protection of the Museum’s own intellectual property. She also served on the Board of Directors of the Jefferson Symphony Orchestra for many years.

Suzanna practiced environmental law for twelve years before transitioning to the entertainment field. She began her career as a staff attorney at The Environmental Law Institute, a preeminent Washington DC think tank. Upon moving to Denver, she practiced with a national Tier 1 firm and subsequently with a boutique Seventeenth Street environmental litigation firm.

As an environmental litigator, she represented both plaintiffs and defendants in a variety of environmental and natural resource matters valued in the millions to hundreds of millions of dollars, some of which were prominently featured in national and international news. On the transactional and regulatory side, Suzanna also represented her corporate clients in complex real estate deals with environmental liability implications and routinely counseled them on compliance and permitting issues.

Suzanna’s motto is: “When you are faced with tough choices, remember there are two things you’ll never regret: being kind and being honest.”
